Date of Admission to the Roll: 17 August 1998

Dual qualified in Scotland and England, Alice originally qualified as a Scottish solicitor in 1979 following her apprenticeship with James & George Collie, one of Aberdeen’s largest firms. After a short spell at Grampian Regional Council’s Department of Law and Administration, she returned to James & George Collie, specialising in company and commercial work, becoming a partner in 1985.

In 1986 she moved south with her husband, also a solicitor but who had then chosen to pursue a career in the Parachute Regiment, spending a brief period with one of the larger City firms, Reynolds, Porter, Chamberlain, before leaving to start a family. Prior to returning to full time employment in the legal profession, she gained a wealth of quasi-legal experience working with Dover District Council as its Complaints Investigator.

Having qualified in England in 1999, Alice chose to specialise in conveyancing, first in the commercial sector at Herrington and Carmichael and then as Head of Residential Conveyancing at Neale Turk, before setting up her own sole practice, Grant’s Solicitors, in 2002. Specialising exclusively in residential conveyancing, she grew her firm over the next 7 years to become arguably one of the most successful sole practices in the Fleet area through a combination of outstanding client care, client accessibility and business efficiency.

Recognising the benefits of the full service, multi-disciplined practice, Alice merged with Bates in October 2009, bringing a wealth of experience to the Property Team, a wide network of clients in the Fleet and Farnborough area and a thorough appreciation of how a legal practice operates as a business.

After seven years running her own business and with her 2 daughters now at university, Alice looks forward to developing her interests in photography, gardening and tennis.
